The Jet Business Takes Off

The Jet Business is formally opening its doors in January 2012 at One Grosvenor Place, London SW1X 7JH.

With no affiliation to any particular business jet manufacturer, The Jet Business aims to provide visitors with independent and impartial advice. Potential buyers can be educated on the widest range of business jets, both new and pre-owned, available on the market today.

The Jet Business, with its floor to ceiling screens running the length of the showroom, where full size 1:1 cabin cross sections and floor plans of the majority of jets can be displayed, is already being heralded as a game changer in executive aircraft trading by the manufacturers, clients and industry authorities. It pledges a fully immersive experience and more transparent experience for prospective buyers who are guided through the whole transaction process.

Founding director is Steve Varsano who brings three decades of global experience brokering aircraft. The Jet Business is the culmination of five years’ planning and shaping. He describes The Jet Business as the first consumer brand in business jet trading and  believes that its client base will be truly international. Every individual or company that can or will own a business aircraft travels through London at some point. Although holding a global presence, The Jet Business believes its main clientele will be based in Russia/CIS, Asia, Europe, Middle East, India and Africa.

UK Air Passenger Duty Rates Postponed for BizAv

The UK Treasury has elected to delay implementation of the Air Passenger Duty (APD) on business aircraft operators until April 2013.

Key points for the bizav industry are:

  • Aircraft below 5,700 kg will be excluded from the APD.
  • APD charges for business aircraft will be based on the distance of the flight.
  • Business aircraft between 5,700 kg and 20,000 kg will be subject to the same rates as commercial airlines instead of being subject to a special higher rate. For these aircraft, potential APD charges will range from £13 (€16) to £184 (€220) per passenger.
  • Aircraft above 20,000 kg with less than 19 seats will pay the same APD rates, but with a multiple of two. The potential APD range will be £26 (€31) to £368 (€439)per passenger.

London Oxford airport soars in 2011

London Oxford airport recorded a 12% rise in its movements in 2011 to 6,000 take-off and landings and says it now ranks fifth in the UK for business aviation activity at civil airports, ahead of rival London Stansted airport.

“This continued growth in our business aviation traffic is great news,” said London Oxford’s business development director, James Dillon-Godfray. “It proves the attraction of our airport to business and VIP travellers and justifies the ongoing investment by the owners and the outstanding commitment of the airport and oxfordjet fixed base operator team.”

Over the past 12 months, the Reuben Brothers-owned airport installed a primary and secondary (Mode-S, MSSR) surveillance radar system, which is expected to be fully operational ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games. It has completed work on 17,800m2 (191,600ft2) of new high strength apron, resurfaced 5,000m2 of established surfaces, increased the licensed runway length by more than 20% and strengthened the surface area to allow heavier aircraft, including the Embraer E-Jet series and the A318/319 family, to operate from the site. “The airport is now routinely visited by larger jet types, including the EMB-190 and Avro RJ with seating capacity of 100 plus,” said the airport. “London Oxford is also prepared for the next generation of regional jets including the Sukhoi Superjet and the Bombardier C-Series – covering destinations as far as Sharm El Sheikh. The larger 135-seat CS300 will be able to cover most of Europe from Oxford. The new runway length enables longer range private jets such as the Global family and Gulfstream G550 to undertake transatlantic flights on a commercial basis.”

Further improvement projects are planned for 2012 including the construction of new hangars to house the next generation of regional jets and top-of-the-range business jets.
